Election Update 30 Dec 1:45 pm

Still no word from the ECK. Absolutely nothing. This is outrageous. Even if they can’t announce they results yet, someone should come in and give a timeline or explain what is going on. The lack of information flowing from them is just unacceptable.

Temperatures are rising again.

Manu Chandaria has spoken for the business community and appealed for calm while results are announced. Francis Atwoli has also called for calm and asked for the government to assure people of their security, specifically the Minister for Internal Security and the A-G.

Nothing yet from PNU. Though Kibwana and Kombo just made some off-the-cuff remarks to the press asking for calm and asking ODM to stop intimidating the ECK (me thinks they are angling for nominated positions after being sent home). Raila also just spoke again outside KICC appealing for calm among his supporters, and toning down his rhetoric about what happens if the elections are indeed rigged – he said Kenyans will decide.

In the meantime some MP results:

– Nyeri Town: Esther Mathenge

– Gatundu North: Clement Waibara

– Githunguri: Baiya

– Lari: Turuthi

– Changamwe: Kajembe

– Bura: Nuli

– North Horr: Ganya

– Isiolo North: Kuti

– Isiolo South: Abdul Ali

-North Imenti: Ruteere

– Central Imenti: Imanyara

– Kilome: Harun Mwai

The ECK should come out and speak out what is happening. Their silence will create more tension. By the way for those interested with the press conference of Raila, it is already uploaded on the NTV youtube. check it out.

    Hi Ory,

I understand that Kibaki agreed to a recount.

    @Observer
If Kibaki agreed to a recount, the mainstream Kenya media have not run the story (yet) – maybe I missed something there. I understand Martha Karua is also at KICC.
48 constituencies are disputed. What Raila asked for is that the areas highlighted in the audit done last night, should be re-tallied and verified in the presence of the observers, the media and party agents. He claims ECK officials at the KICC topped up figures in order to favor Kibaki.

    IMHO, Raila’s request is reasonable.

  • Why are we such a pathetic country?
