Election Update 30 Dec 2:50 pm

ODM just finished a press conference, William Ruto spoke missed it because was hanging out at the pool with baby but baba took notes for me (my poor family!)

– ECK is supposed to verify by 3:00 pm

– Results in 48 constituencies have issues. The results announced are not the ones on the form 16A that were signed by ALL party agents.

– Examples of discrepancies – Kandara 16 A figures are 33,825 vs announced figures 70,443; Mwea 16 A figures 62,374 vs 82,374; I. South 45,029 vs 60,050.

– ODM’s total figures as announced by Ruto 4,215,437 Raila vs. 3,748,261 Kibaki.

Nothing yet from PNU/government. This is very very irresponsible and if anything Kibaki should be the one out there appealing for calm. Serious allegations have been made and in my view it is incumbent on them to be out there lowering the temperatures.

The most beautiful thing about Dec 27 was that Kenyans from all over Kenya came out to vote peacefully – IF – the government/incumbent has in some way attempted to tamper with this process it will be a sad day for Kenya and very very short-sighted. If that is indeed the case – and I reiterate that it is not verified, I think Kibaki should concede for the sake of the country and avoid putting us in recount hell.

For those who are asking, Kibaki has not agreed to a recount.

Okolloh, I don’t doubt that there has been rigging, but how did you arrive at the figures above without ECK releasing any information?

    Tim, those are ODM figures.

so, whats the waiting game? for us whom are abroad… we cant watch no more TV. its embaracing how things are turning into. where is all that peace and soliderity we saw on 27th from dusk till dawn.. families on the polling stations wanting to make a difference.. all media coverage was prasing the turnout and the peaceful atmosphere on the streets..

In an attempt to “lower the temperatures” PNU sent Mungatana to say something as a rejoinder… Where is Mwai Kibaki?! And Mungatana, Kiunjuri and their PNU cronies had basically nothing to say… apart from reteirating that ODM is inciting the public and is responsible for ALL (!!?) the violence going on out there.

Prof. Wangari Maathai issues a statement in support of presidential vote retallying. She said that if the ECK are confident about the results they reported then the body should not worry since their results will only be confirmed by a tallying process.
She added it is wrong for people (probably meaning candidates) to win unfairly and it is wrong for people to lose unfairly. That in the long run tallying the votes will be less expensive than the alternative (which I guess is to do nothing).

If the ECK is sure and confident that they have done they job well, why can they not release their figures? My suspicion is that the ECK is hiding something: it Either they are divided among themselves or they have been influenced by an outside forces. ECK should know that they have an obligation to provide mature leadership at this point of kenya history without necessary siding with any political party. ECK is only authority which can clear this confusion. I am doubting its credibility now..

Igembe South constituencies form16A – specifically flown in by chatter flight at the expense of ODM – shows that Kibaki garnered 45,029, while the ECK announced 60,050 votes! Similarly in Kieni constituency Kibaki garnered 54,377 while the ECK announced 72,054! What is shocking however, is that in Juja Kibaki garnered 48,293 votes but the ECK announced 100,390 votes and the sum total of parliamentary votes cast were 85,000 votes. In other words, 15,000 voters came and voted for Kibaki as president – and then walked away without bothering with parliamentary and civic polls! Mwea constituency is another example where form16A shows Kibaki garnered 62,374 votes but the ECK “awarded” him 82,374 votes, while in Molo it was actually 50,175 for Kibaki while the ECK gave him 74,474.

The ODM is saying, if elections were about awarding votes, ECK may as well give Kibaki 500,00 votes for free!

ODM has vowed that unless the ECK backs up its announcement with certified documentary evidence, ladies and gentlemen, this country is headed to the dogs.

ODM further insists that the figures they have tabled are in public domain. The press and all political parties have figures and any variance with ECK officially announced figures is unacceptable.

I thank all Kenyans for their patiance at this difficult moment. The ECK is accounatble for all the mess they have created in Kenya with regards to this election. If everything was done with credibility, chaos could not have erruptes as already visualised now. Kenyans need a fair election to both losers and winners; now that all votes from the 210 continuencies are being reviewed, we want to watch the credibility of ECK, we already have 48 continuecies where there seems to be a problem. So, Kenyans are wide awake, if Mr Kiviutu feels he is under pressure, the best is to resign honarably without causing chaos. Afterall is the poor who are dying not senior government officials.
    Disgusted Kenyan

  • Kivuitu can not afford to resign at this juncture. In that event, the deputy will take over. Am sure we all know what the aftermath will be….

  • This is totally unacceptable.

What are we supposed to do? Who has the answers to these questions burning in the hearts of Kenyans?

ECK is compromised! Who do we turn to?

Where are the politicians who have won their seats legally? Should they be mobilising for action? Is it legal?

Just in: The long awaited ECK briefing @KICC could not proceed as barely 10mins into Kivuitu reading the results everybody went nuts. As he read out the Molo tally protests errupted that that Kibaki’s figure of 75,261 was not the figure on the form 16A. Member elect Ruto had gone as far as bringing in the Molo returning officer to confirn the figures on form 16A as accurateand the one’s read by Kivuitu as false.. Once the crowd of observers and party agents heard this pandemonium errupted. The reading of results could not continue, security men escorted those yelling from the venue and the chairman was escorted out by police under tight security. The gsu emptied the hall of all people, we do not know when the next briefing will resume.

    Hi,
what the HEll is happenning in Kenya. Just seen on Al jazeera the press conference break up. I think we need to be level headed. If it be Kibaki, Let it be, ONly that he may not be able to achieve much with a hostile parliament.
    thanks madam for the updates.
