Election 2007 Dec 29 10:30 am update

First, for all those who took advantage of my time away from the blog to turn the comment section into a space for your tribal-based vitriol – SHAME ON YOU! From reading this blog you should know that I don’t entertain that kind of crap, and my readers have always respected that.

I’ve had to spend half an hour (on a slow connection) deleting comments instead of focusing on updating the results. I do not want to close the comment section because of a few people, especially since majority of the comments have been positive regardless of who the person is supporting, but I will not tolerate that rubbish on my blog. Create your own blog or express yourself on websites that will accommodate non-civil comments – Kenyan Pundit is all about KENYA.

Ggrrr…

OK, on to the latest.

– Tension is high due to the delay in announcing results. Hear there are problems in town and Kibera.

– Footage on KTN right now showing tampering of results in Kamkunji in favor of Kibaki and the PNU candidate – it’s very obvious no matter who you are supporting. I really hope this is an isolated case.

– Latest results – approx Raila 4.05, Kibaki 3.68, Kalonzo 0.67

– 34 constituencies left before official announcement of presidential results by ECK. Constituencies left are Coast 10; Eastern 8; Central 8; Nairobi 5: Rift Valley 3. No prizes for guessing who this tally favors.

MP results (though focus of the media now is on Presidential numbers)

– Kachileba: Poghiso in

– Saboti: Eugene Wamalwa in

– Mosop: David Koech in

– Makadara: Dickson Waithaka in

– Lamu West: Fahim Twaha in

Thanks for the heads-up. The Nation’s website seems to have failed, and this, supplemented by some weak KBC commentary, remains my primary source of info. This is one bloody tense race. Be well, and I look forward to your next update.

  • Peter Kabumi

Could you please name the 34 constituencies remaining to be tallied for presidential?

  • audrey

I’m from Congo-Kinshasa and I often visit Nairobi. I’m a buff of Kenyan politics since childhood. ..Thank you for this blog, which I only discovered tonight as I’m awaiting the good news of Odinga taking over :-)
It’s true that the Nation website tally seems to have crashed and you happen to be the only lifeline to Kenya left today …Again, kudos to you for the energy and the good work…

  • Ulenge

    😥
The beloved country, what happens if raila is not the next presdent?

  • kanyonyango

ory, many thanks for all . you remain the only few lifelines left for those of us a way from home. what can u say about the remaining constituencies in relation to their impact on the presidential basket.

  • Great blog, thanks, I’m in South Africa – couldn’t be bothered to vote this year – I have no faith in either candidate and wish we had some ‘real’ leadership in Kenya. But having said that, South Africa is doomed to a new president who is accused of racketeering, corruption, fraud, money laundering and bribery … thats not to mention rape (of which he was aquitted because the accused admitted that ‘he “could” have thought that she wanted sex … by the way she was dressed’.

  • Dedicated coverage here Ory. Well in. Please use the kenyaelection07 technorati tag for your posts please!

    Thanks for your election updates.

Please continue providing as much info as you can on the situation on the ground … as reported by KTN or otherwise. This is a definitely tight race … and that definitely explains the tension in the country (and abroad too!)

  • Sir Ory, you are doing a splendid job, far much better than the lousy KBC and ECK folk, I think we should contribute some money to promote your toil regarding this election. nationmedia.com is down and other site you are the sole element we in abroad rely upon, thank you very mush:smile: God bless you

  • Bemused

Your efforts are greatly appreciated, you are a lifeline. The 30 mins of cleanup are greatly appreciated.

MentalAcrobatics the comment “Please use the kenyaelection07 technorati tag for your posts please!” isn’t that kinda harsh in light of the working conditions (and delivering) our esteemed Ory is working under?

  • LJK

Hey Ory, thanks for the updates… just wanted to take this opportunity to apologize for a post i made while you were on break (ie.cell msgs doing the rounds) . My intentions were not to cause any rift amongst Kenyans but purely for humour. Sorry for any inconvenience caused to you & fellow readers. Thanks.

    im a kenyan in tunisia,
i wonder what the kibaki government is taking kenyans as fools. personally i have been following elections online from the day one of voting. i am surprised that at 11am kenyan time today, kibaki had 4009300 votes with raila having 43356092 votes; then allover sudden at 2.30pm kenyan time, kiviutu annouces a much lesser figures, raila 3880053 and kibaki 3842051, i really question the intergrity of kiviutu, can he tell us what he knows about the delays in this election 2007. We are watching him closely!

Hello, thanks for the updates. This is actually the only functioning source of election coverage online so kudos. Anyway we will be praying for peace for our country but Kenyans involved in violence should wake up and see that they are destroying their own lives-they should use their common sense.I pray that peace prevails no matter who wins and that whoever wins really has the nation at heart. Kenyans are tired of being lied to-its time leaders start fulfilling their promises!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
