– I am concerned about reports of poor reporting and ethnic baiting by stations in the rural areas, especially vernacular stations – tensions are high enough as it is.
– I agree with the commenters who say that Kivuitu should have been more responsible during the press conference, his cavalier attitude when people are didn’t help things though I think it was more of a cover your ass strategy – the more the commissioners distance themselves from what is going on in the field, the safer they are from accusations of tampering with the results.
– Demos reported in Migori, Kisumu, Eldoret, Mombasa and Kakamega.
– The foreign observer press conference just ended, they have refused to judge the process before the results are officially announced and have urged for restraint.
– Kamkunji returning officers are AWOL with the official tally.
– North Horr: Ukur Yattani out.
– Tally of seats by party: ODM 93, PNU 33, ODM-K 15, KANU 9, SAFINA 5, NARC 3, NEWFK 2, SISI 2, NARC-K 2
– Both parties have declared themselves winners of the elections. I think this is highly irresponsible, ODM started off first with Mudavadi reading the statement and forcing PNU to respond. What they both should have been doing is urging calm and restraint among their supporters until the process is concluded- after all these are the guys who’s lives are coming to a standstill (stores closed, no public transport, fear etc) and paying for the violence with their lives, while Kibaki and Odinga are safely ensconced wherever they are.
– ODM is reporting the following numbers: Raila 4.2, Kibaki 3.7,
– PNU is reporting the following numbers: Raila 4.2, Kibaki 4.5
wow…am speechless
Both ODM and PNU are acting irresposibly by claiming they’re in the lead.
They should urge their supporters to stay calm instead.
Am so dissapointed by the leaders we are putting in office already. Kibaki and Raila should be calming the situation instead of watching and flaring tensions. The whole country can go in fire as they watch. Shame on both of them, I expected better. ECK has the final.
ODM AND PNU are simply filling in the vacuum left by the imcompetence or lack of foresight of ECK. [They should have been upfront with information as in the previous elections].
The chairmans lack of seriousness shows how one can be unaware of consequences.
Kenyans have taken these elections so seriously and resources heavily invested therefore it is indeed disheartening to see how the chairman responded to legitimate concerns.
Is he not aware that the eyes of the world are upon him? Given such a platform ought one not to represent Kenyans as responsible people?
Ory the latest update from nation newspapers has what they say is the official tally from 189 constituencies Raila has 4.35 092 and Kibaki 4.009 300. T
hat leaves about 20 constituencies. Do have any information of which areas are still pending as at now?
OMG Ory are you watching this? For the first time, I am actually afraid for Kenya!! And I really mean that and I am not being alarmist.
I can’t believe this!!
Am listening to the broadcast.
I don’t blame kivuitu. If he put a serious face when he’s giving “bad news”, it’d make it worse.
This ain’t a cancer diagnosis, it ain’t the end of the world. Kenya needs to be united no matter how the results are relayed. It ain’t an excuse to shelve the law.
Oh, when will Kenyan’s realize that the only time people genuinely died for this country was during the emergency when fighting the british. Also during multiparty clamor in the late 80’s. After that, any death especially now is for the benefit of the politician n not for Kenya.
The court exists. And no matter what Martha Karua or William Ruto say during the announcement, it don’t matter.
Grow up all ya’ll.
Through out these elections I solely relied on this blog for accurate and up-to-date reporting and didn’t fall short of the expectations. Just wanted to say thank you for the hard work. Am really challenged by your patriotism and balanced tone in your work. Once again thanks for your efforts and love for our dear Kenya.
True…disappointment is what we can say of these great people we are electing to the office. It only confirms what we all have seen as a trend with men hungry for power; instead of zooming in on the little man that put you to power and protecting him against harm from his own mischief in your name, our beloved leaders are only concerned about themselves. Declaring yourselves winners ahead of the officials has been the root cause of major conflicts through out Africa. The earnestness with which each individual cast their ballot this year’s election is without doubt one of people with hope. Their zeal for TRUE leadership should not be dismissed as mere vote. This is why we all need to call for this TRUE leadership every time we cast that ballot. WILL THE TRUE LEADERS OF THIS GREAT NATION PLEASE STAND UP!!!
I am shocked to read about the state of affairs. I blame Kivuitu solely for this whole mess, after all he is the ECK boss. What am hearing is so disturbing especially for those of us away from home and is actually not a laughing matter…this lol(ing) from some comments here just gives the feel that the whole process is not being taken seriously! People can die from this and there’s nothing funny about that. Sorry if it feels like am taking out my frustration here, but Kivuitu’s attitude coupled with the delays and obvious stench of rigging would do that to you if your only source of info is a blog, jammed newspaper websites and showing 12 hour old news and expensive calls to Kenya for nothing concrete. Ory,thanks again for keeping us enlightened.
we cannot Blame Kivuitu He’s working by Himself against the other Kibaki friendly commissioners who were recently appointed, I want a better Kenya no matter who the President is so Guys lets embrace change
Ok…We have heard enough…from these politicians…Kivuitu and his team..now holds everything in their hands…..they need prayers though….kenya has never bn lyk this b4…………………
any more news Ory? Its really gone quite . Whats up?
There is more on http://www.kumekucha.blogspot.com/ on the comments section… i think someone is commenting in realtime… Things are not sounding good. Some election results to be cancelled and repeated. ..
😳
Ory you are the best.
Both parties need to calm down and let Kivuitu do his job.
Asiye kubali kushindwa si mshindani.
But honestly, the tension is created not by ECK, but by the waring sides.
Then seems that only my neighbourhood we took heed to Kibaki’s advice to continue working. People are picking tea! Life goes on. Am telling you.
The only time we had the voter deciding his fate was on 27th. Two days ago. After that, its back to politicians running the show!
With both issuing their own results, its clear its all about them. The citizen is forgoten barely 2 days after elections.
If was about justice for the voter, they wouldn’t have made those announcements.Worst of all, ODM knows that even if Kibaki worn, they’d have a majority in parliament. According to an analyst last night, Using parliament, they (ODM) can easily entrench their parliament jobs but have the president up for a vote of no confidence and forcing a presidential reelection. Then most def ODM would have their president. That way they’d concede defeat and spare Kenyan’s the violence that we are about to see.
But the above scenario is only applicable in a perfect Kenya where its about freedom n justice n not power n greed.
Only one group will be happy after things calm down. Lawyers! I see about 200 petitions.
When this sun goes down, only God knows. Its 6pm.
Lord help us.

I surprised with the manner in Kivuitu has handled this election. From the word go I suspected there is something he is hiding from the general public. He should know Kenyan want a change! an economic growth of six percent with basic needs unaffordable to the poor is not an achievement to go by as claimed the Kibaki government. Can Kivuitu gives the results by ensuring there is continuity from previous results released. The latest update from nation newspapers has what they say is the official tally from 189 constituencies Raila has 4.35 092 and Kibaki 4.009 300. Yet now the release by Kivuitu at 2.30pm kenyan time show that they both have 3.8 votes
Can someone explain this ?
Amwata
I am disappointed by both Kibaki and Raila. By failing to calm their fans,i am convinced NONE of them is on on statesman by any measure!congrats to the majority of voters who, despite the tension, have shunned violence. Those are the real heroes!
